What to Consider
- Material: This is probably the most important factor. We all think of raincoats as hot rubber jackets that don’t breathe, but thanks to new materials being used (such as nylon), these coats can be breathable and comfortable. However, for short jaunts, a rubbery classic is welcome.
- Fit: There are several styles available on the market right now, from trench to windbreaker to somewhere in between. Trenches with hoods provide the most protection, but active kiddos on the go may be more comfortable in a sleeker, shorter style.
- Warmth Rating: The coat’s warmth has a lot to do with whether or not the coat is lined. But that might not matter as much if you plan on using the coat as a layering piece.
- Cost: These raincoats range from under $20 to close to $100. If you have more than one child who is likely to use it, a higher-quality, higher-cost coat might make sense.
